Launch of BUIL3D-PRINT: a revolution in the construction sector

The launch meeting of the BUIL3D-PRINT project took place this morning on the premises of Fundación Prodintec. This is a pioneering initiative in our country and is the follow-up of the CON3D project “Development of an automated fabrication process for the construction sector using 3D printing”. In May of this year, 3D printing was used to process traditional materials such as mortars and concretes, those most frequently used in the sector, and the process was not simply limited to a pilot laboratory experiment, but a totally industrialized process has been developed including the equipment required to carry out the entire printing and manufacturing procedure.

The BUIL3D-PRINT Project aims to develop an Integral Production Process for the Construction Industry Based on Large Scale 3D Printing Technology, meaning a revolution in traditional construction processes, and awarding clear advantages to both building and civil works, such as improved safety, optimized manufacturing processes, minimized need for formworks, and reduced use of raw materials, therefore leading to lower polluting emissions.

As part of an overall concept which includes the development of a large-scale 3D printing system capable of building full-scale construction elements, the research and development of new advanced printable construction materials compatible with this new technology, and the definition of new production methodologies based on large-scale 3D printing techniques, BUIL3D-PRINT Technology will allow for solid progress to be made towards the industrialization of the sector.

In order to implement this proposal, a consortium of companies has been formed, the group is led by Cementos Tudela Veguín, a company belonging to Masaveu Industria, and other partners such as Coprosa and Digafer are also taking part. Other collaborating entities include Fundación Prodintec and research groups from the Universities of Oviedo and Vigo.

The Project also counts on the support of the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology.
